Who we are
Hi! We are Brady and Becca Nigh! We both grew up on dairy farms in Southwest Wisconsin. We both knew we wanted to continue our careers in agriculture, so we attended University of Wisconsin - River Falls for Animal Science. Upon graduating, we came back to our communities and quickly realized the importance of full animal utilization for the animals in our area and on our small farm.
After graduation, we were lucky to be able to purchase Becca’s father’s childhood home to start our own farming operation. We have many animals on our small farm including horses, dogs named Odie and Paprika, and other livestock. We raise Hereford beef, and dual purpose (eggs and meat) chickens. Part of our life goal was to be able to market our animals locally and use some of our skills to prove that local doesn’t have to be expensive.
OUR WHY?
During Brady’s college career, he was competing at the Collegiate Meat Evaluation competition in Texas. While he was in Texas, he was able to enjoy the Texas cuisine and the Texas staple: Brisket. Coming back home he realized that Brisket wasn’t locally utilized and wanted to find ways to help utilize these delicious cuts of meat and not turn it all into burger. Hence the start of Simply Smoked, to find cuts of meat that are best served low and slow over hickory smoke!
